Detroit, not thought of as a bastion of design, is setting it sights on attracting up to 1,000 design individuals to work and live in the city.

Design Detroit, a group of creative organizations and economic-development groups have landed a $200,000 grant from the Miami-based John S. and James L. Knight Foundation to get started on transforming the rock city into a design mecca.
